Power system disturbances can be broadly classified into two categories; large and small. Disturbances such as generation tripping, load outage, faults etc have severe influences on the system operation. These are large disturbances and the dynamic response and the stability conditions of the system are assessed within the standard framework of transient stability analysis and control.
