KS2 RESOURCE PACK: Creative Writing with Jacqueline Wilson
A heart-warming tale of unconventional families and unconditional love; the perfect read for Jacqueline Wilson fans, young and old er. Jess and Tracy Beaker are the perfect team. They do everything together. Jess thinks Tracy is the best mum ever , even when she shouts at her teachers! And the Duke Estate is a bit scary. And will Tracy realise that her childhood dream might not be what she needs after all? Jacqueline Wilson is one of the most loved authors for a reason.
She has sold more than 30 million books in the UK alone and in she was made a Dame. I had a very clear idea in my head that I wanted it to have lots of illustrations. I thought it would only work if it seemed like it was written by Tracy. Nick had illustrated some lovely poetry collections, very lively and modern and my editor David had the feeling that we would be a good match. Authors and illustrators don't usually meet, at least not for a long time, but a meeting was set up. We were sort of eyeing each other up in a friendly but rather shy way and I thought that he looked very nice and I liked his style of drawing, but I knew I wanted really completely quirky and zany drawings and Nick was wearing a quite conventional suit.
Dame Jacqueline Wilson voiced frustration at publishers' insistence that her books should appear in pink covers because they know it is likely to boost sales. Dame Jacqueline, whose books such as the Tracy Beaker series dominated library lending in the last decade, challenged her own publishers to tear up the marketing rule book and bring out one of her stories in a different colour to test their own assumptions. Nick Sharratt, childrens book illustrator, reveals the objects that inspire him. Pink toys create generation of 'princesses'. The colour pink won't stink for long.
I'm Tracy Beaker. This is a book all about me. I'd read it if I were you. It's the most incredible dynamic heart-rending story. Tracy is ten years old. She lives in a Children's Home but would like a real home one day, with a real family. Meet Tracy, follow her story, and share her hopes for the future in this beautifully observed, touching, and often very funny tale, all told in Tracy's own words.
