The problem is that so much of what characterises the holiday season is rooted in suppositions of family and financial stability.

How do I ... spend Christmas alone? Here are 10 ways

Holidays are a time of family, friends, fun, and frenzy, with parents and children alike looking forward to the traditions. But for many parents with younger children, it can be an especially stressful time of year as they seek to balance this hectic and hurried holiday. With family expectations, work and school parties, parades and more, parents must be intentional when deciding what activities to participate in. This may require setting some boundaries with family members and friends. Williams adds that parents might put a focus on most-enjoyed outings rather than trying to squeeze it all in. So be prepared to handle it accordingly. Follow their lead, and if they start to melt down or become disruptive, be willing to bail and give them some time with whatever calming activities they enjoy.

Surviving the last week before Christmas break can make even the most seasoned teachers feel frantic. These simple ideas, with minimal prep, will help you keep behavior in check, spread kindness through your classroom, get your parent gifts done, and keep everybody engaged and still learning that last crazy week before break! By now, you may be hanging on for dear life trying to get your duties all done, report cards finished, and the last of your parent gifts completed. Here are 5 ideas, and some free downloads, for the last 5 days before Christmas break that your class will love! Receiving a new book is always exciting! During the last week, hold a holiday book exchange. I use Scholastic bonus points to purchase books to give each student and always get a few extras to add to our holiday book exchange.

With less than a week before the holidays as a mom of a toddler I will admit it does not always seem like the most wonderful time of the year. With the countdown on it seems as though there are not enough hours in the day to get through the never ending to do list. Why is that we are able to turn such a special time of year into the most stressful time of year? During a season that is about giving and not receiving, it seems counterintuitive, and perhaps even selfish, to think about our self and our own needs. To get sucked into the season and all the pressure that comes with it. Gracefully say no. Of course telling your mother-in-law you are not coming Christmas Day might not be an option, but the annual neighbourhood ugly Christmas sweater party or drinks with your work colleagues are probably not necessary.

We, Karen and Sylvie, love Christmas. We love the traditions, the luxury and the coziness. In our everyday lives, we are coaches and help people with work-related questions. But what troubles you at work, also often troubles you in your private life. We wrote this book for people who enjoy being around their family. Simply because this makes relationships better and more fun.
