The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a 12 week conditioning programme involving speed, agility and quickness SAQ training and its effect on agility performance in young soccer players. This suggests that SAQ training is an effective way of improving agility, with and without the ball, for young soccer players and can be included in physical conditioning programmes. Although speed represents a very important component of fitness for a soccer player, quickness acceleration speed during the first steps is probably more important. This is because sprints in soccer are mainly performed over short distances undertaken at maximal intensity although the longest distances tend to be about 40 m and usually involves several changes in direction Jovanovic et al.

Agilty is meant to get you back to running and feeling comfortable on your feet with sport in mind. This is the time to focus on moving in two planes, forward and back and side to side. We do not want to impliment any "cutting" or "pivoting" on your reconstructed knee. Advance as tolerated and continue to work on foot speed. Focus on starting your team drills at a basic and fundemental level and progress appropriately. You can start to return to practice with your team and continue to advance on your agility and drills with cutting and pivoting. When you start to practice with your team start slow and progress as you build your confidence.

As with any training program, athletes must be physically prepared for development of comprehensive training programs for agility and quickness.
